The Dull Knifes of Pine Ridge: A Lakota Odyssey by Joe Starita,
Joe Starita tells the triumphant and moving story of a Lakota-Northern Cheyenne family. In 1878, the renowned Chief Dull Knife, who fought alongside Crazy Horse, escaped from forced relocation in Indian Territory and led followers on a desperate six-hundred-mile freedom flight back to their homeland. His son, George Dull Knife survived the Wounded Knee Massacre and later toured in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. Gary Dull Knife Sr. fought in World War I and took part in the Siege of Wounded Knee in 1973. Guy Dull Knife Jr. fought in Vietnam and is now an accomplished artist. Starita updates the Dull Knife family history in his new afterword for this Bison Books edition.

Pantographic knife - A Pantographic knife, also known as a paratrooper knife, is a folding knife whose blade is fully enclosed by its handles when closed, in a manner similar to a balisong knife (commonly called a butterfly knife in western countries) - with which it is often confused. Unlike the balisong knife, the pantographic knife uses a pantograph linkage to keep the handles aligned during opening and closing (whereas balisong knife handles swing freely and independently).

Butterfly knife - The Balisong is a butterfly knife, and is sometimes known as a Batangas knife, is a form of folding pocket knife with two handles that counter-rotate around the tang such that, when closed, the blade is concealed within grooves in the handles. In the hands of a trained user, the knife blade can be brought forth quickly using one hand.

Penny knife - The penny knife is the most basic kind of folding knife, where the blade folds in and out of the handle freely without a spring or other locking device to hold it in position. The smallest models of Opinel knife are an example of this simple design, consisting only of a blade pivoting on a rivet through a metal collar around a wooden handle.

Boot knife - A boot knife is a type of fixed-blade knife designed to be worn in or attached to a boot. This keeps the knife concealed within the boot and/or under the pant leg.
